Case Study: Modernizing the Licensure of Lousiana State Board of Medical Examiners

Challenge

The Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners' previous licensing and regulatory system was technologically deficient and only partially automated, installed in approximately 2011. Their existing system platform could not keep up with changing technology and did not offer the flexibility needed to streamline the Board’s licensure processes.

The Board wanted to improve overall efficiencies, eliminate manual processes and accommodate future growth.

Solution

After evaluating a handful of Custom-Off-the-Shelf Systems (COTS), LSBME selected Big Picture Software as the Board’s new licensure system vendor.

Big Picture’s regulatory and professional licensing software system enabled the Board to automate online applications and renewals including online license search & verification.

As part of the initial scope of the project, Big Picture implemented a custom disciplinary and enforcement component to assist with the Board’s complex disciplinary/enforcement procedures.

Result

After completing an aggressive nine month implementation the Board went “live” with Big Picture’s regulatory and professional licensing software system in 2016.

Since the completed implementation, LSBME has reduced and streamlined their entire licensure cycle, providing a significant time & cost savings to the Board.
